TMC Volunteers are finishing the 2009/2010 season in a grand style with another successful More Than Just a Yardage Sale. Congratulations to Andrea Diplock, to the tireless team who sorted, priced and prepared materials at our 401 Richmond St. workroom, and to more than 100 dedicated helpers – TMC Volunteers, Museum staff, friends and family – who came out to help with the 15th annual Sale held May 28 & 29.
Thanks to everyone who attended the Sale. Proceeds from the Sale have been donated to the Museum to support exhibitions and programs, and are much appreciated.
There is always some unsold fabric remaining after each Yardage Sale. This year, the fabric was distributed far and wide, from Toronto to Haliburton to Uganda.
Our unsold fabrics are used by Arts Junktion, which provides arts and crafts supplies to the Toronto District School Board. In Toronto, we also donated leftover materials to St. Christopher House neighbourhood centre and to Pegasus Community Project for Adults with Special Needs.
In other news, our Volunteer Association recently received a generous donation of $1,000 to be used towards the cost of renting our workroom space at 401 Richmond St. A special thank you to the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Looking ahead, we are planning our third annual For the Love of Cloth Decorator Fabric Sale. The dates for the Sale are Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30.
The Volunteer Committee held its last meeting of the season on June 2. We are breaking for the summer and will next meet at 5 pm on Wednesday, September 1 at the Textile Museum.
For now, we are heading for a summer of rest and regeneration, safe travel and visits with family.
Strand News is the online meeting place for members of the Volunteer Association of the Textile Museum of Canada. Our annual fundraisers, including the Textile Bazaar, support Museum programs and exhibitions.
