TMC Curators’ Series: The Patterned Imagination

Meet Textile Museum of Canada curators in a series of seminars that explore the fascinating connections between textiles, symbols and the psyche. Blending presentations in the Lecture Theatre and real encounters with objects in the galleries or in our collections behind-the-scenes, each seminar offers unique perspectives on material, culture and the imagination.
Wednesdays 6 pm: Feb. 2, March 2, April 6, May 4

Feb. 2: The Coloured Imagination
Join Natalia Nekrassova to learn about the magnificent silk ikats of Central Asia and preview selected artifacts for the upcoming exhibition “Silk Oasis on the Silk Road: Bukhara”.

March 2: The Language of Pattern in Andean Textiles
Join Roxane Shaughnessy in exploring the use of pattern to encode meaning and as a metaphor for Andean cosmology in Andean textiles.

April 6: Toronto Artist Kai Chan in a Global Milieu
Join Sarah Quinton for an evening of conversation, debate and art appreciation as we look at contemporary textiles, sculpture, painting and landscapes as they are embodied in the work of Kai Chan and his contemporaries.

Individual seminars: Members $20, Non-members $25, Full-time students Pay-What-You-Can.

All five seminars: Members $70, Non-members $90, Full-time students Pay-What-You-Can.
