Get To Know Us: Meet Sheila Thompson

Sheila Thompson Trees For Justice

Trained as a geographer and ecologist (PhD, geography/ecology, McGill University) who conducted field research in Africa and the Caribbean, SHEILA THOMPSON views the world through many lenses. After spending 21 years working in market intelligence at IBM, Sheila is now a senior market research consultant for global companies.

Sheila began volunteering at the Textile Museum of Canada in 2005, and is an active member of the Volunteer Committee. She currently holds the positions of vice-chair and interim treasurer, and was treasurer from 2006 to 2009. Sheila has volunteered in the Museum Shop, at the annual More Than Just a Yardage Sale, and in hospitality service. Sheila is also the former chair of Toronto’s Beach Studio Tour where she developed and executed the organization’s marketing and fundraising strategies.

Sheila has an enduring passion for textiles of all kinds. She is a textile artist: a maker of vibrant organic feltings, which she shows at various exhibitions. She has contributed her work to the Textile Museum’s Shadow Box auction for the past 5 years.
