TXTilecity Tells Toronto’s Textile Stories

The Textile Museum has launched TXTilecity, an interactive website and mobile app that explores the role textiles have played in shaping Toronto’s urban landscape.

From early garment manufacturing and the performing arts, to the rise of the fashion industry and contemporary design, stories come to life in audio and video documentary accounts with commentary by designers Linda Lundström and Kingi Carpenter, Judy Cornish and Joyce Gunhouse of Comrags, entrepreneur Joe Mimran and many more.

More then 65 locations are layered with over 100 stories made available in TXTilecity’s map interface. This content is pushed to iPhone, Blackberry and Android smartphones using GPS technology. You can also hear the stories on your cellphone by calling the number identified on TXTilecity street signs located throughout the downtown core. The recorded message lets you hear about the history of a location while standing in the exact spot the story takes place.
