Good Beginnings: Children’s Hats and Clothing from China

February 11 – May 24, 2015

The exhibition draws from one of the largest and earliest donations to the Museum’s collections, and captures the richness of Chinese culture and traditions. The exhibit will feature 70 hats as well as other children’s clothing, accessories and toys. Arlette Schulman, a volunteer on the Museum’s 4th floor, describes what went on behind the scenes as Museum staff and volunteers prepared the exhibition:

“The first pictures show the individual forms specifically designed to fit each hat. These forms have to be individually shaped to fit each hat, and are then covered with black fabric. Some of the photos also show hats still on the old supports waiting to be placed on the new forms. In the final photos, the finished items stay on holding shelves until they are to go on display.”

Opening reception: February 11, 6:30 pm
