VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION | Textile Museum of Canada

In Memoriam: Audrey Hozack

Audrey HozackAudrey Hozack, founding Chair of the Textile Museum of Canada’s Volunteer Association, died on February 16, 2016 at the age of 96. Her self-penned death notice recalled an interesting and rewarding life that included her association with the Textile Museum. Click here to read Audrey’s obituary. Audrey was noted for her rhymed reports at the Volunteer Association’s Annual General Meetings. Her April 21, 2004 report from the Educators is a classic:

“The children that came to visit our place

Thought our big pitch would be about visiting space.

But give them some thread, and a pencil or two

And they settled right in after having a view

Of the textiles from countries they learned very soon

Were made all by hand on a thing called a loom.

The teachers who bring them have started to love us

Because through our textiles it’s math sans the fuss.

The kids take something home to show to their siblings

And report it’s more fun than the Parliament Buildings.”
